I have been asking myself for many months how to best solicit advertisers for this magazine. The statistics tell us that there is an estimated three million women hunters in the United States and yet it seems many businesses are reluctant to advertise or make products for women. Why?
I’m told that risk is the reason. Every company needs to make money and risk is always a factor when designing a new product or spending money on advertising. However, I believe that many companies may be missing the mark on a market that is prime and raring to go. In fact, women just may be the saving grace for many of these companies and the future of hunting as a sport.
Imagine what women can do both politically and locally for these companies. I know that I’m at the polls every year voting. Want to put a gun in every home? Educate women. My opinion changed immediately about guns once I knew how to shoot them. Want to sell more guns scopes? Educate women. Want more kids involved in hunting? Educate women. All we need is a little support and a few dollars to become your new sales demographic.
Outfitters – Want to expand your market? Consider women. Yes, we may offer some different challenges, but we do have 50% of the buying power. I cannot tell you how many outfitters have told me that that truly enjoyed having female hunters. The guides often tell me they feel more relaxed and enjoy the experience of the hunt. Women are great listeners. Heck, I’ve progressed to picking my own outfitters now and yes I’m looking for something different than my husband. Want to know what I’m looking for? Ask me.
I’m certain that the few dollars that most companies donate and use for write-offs each year could easily be re-aligned to promote women hunters. Have you seen my advertising costs? Why won't more companies help us help them preserve the future of hunting and the future of their businesses?
Thank you to all of you who have taken or are considering taking the risk on women!
==============================================
Ladies,
I think another factor that is preventing companies from doing more for women hunters is that they just don’t know what women hunters want. This site gives you, The Woman Hunter, the opportunity to tell these companies just want you do want.
I want a hat with drawstrings so it will stay on my head!
I want warm hunting boots that fit me.
I want a new Benelli shotgun with at 13 ½ pull length that comes out–of-the–box with a set of color-coded extended chokes.
I want my first bow with poundage I can pull.
I want to learn about rifles.
What do you want? _________________ Lisa C. Snelling

I want a climbing stand that doesn't take BRUTE POWER to climb up the tree with. Something lightweight and very safe and dependable with a comfortable seat and ample size platform.
I want ScentLok made for short people.. with short legs and short arms.
I want a line of Soaps, Shampoo, Conditioner, Shave Gel, deodorant made for sensitive skin with moisturizers... not necessarily made for women but for ANYONE with sensitive skin and scalp. (I have tried all of them currently on the market and have not found one that doesn't dry my hair and skin out.)
I want a Woman's Snake boot that is made for short legs with substance. All of the one's I have looked at are either way too tall or way too tight in the calf.
I want more WOMAN HUNTS available at outfitter's across the states.
I want manufacturers of women's hunting products to realize that NOT ALL of the women who do hunt appreciate the color PINK or want frills on our equipment that sets it apart from the larger or heavier men's version. And just because something is made of camouflage print material.. That DOES NOT make it WOMEN'S HUNTING CLOTHES. This only applies to some manufacturers.
And most of all, I want MEN to quit rolling their eyes and acting like women need to be catered to and waited on when we say we are going hunting with them. I have too much pride to let a man cater to me in any sport or event that I do.
Other than that, I don't want much....

It would be great to have a few more options in hunting apparel. At the big stores, there are so many different patterns and season specific options for men.
So, my list would include:
more camo pattern options
different weights of the same
pack boot choices made for women's dimensions
warm socks in women's sizes
"Wind Stopper" for women
back packs/fanny packs made for smaller body frames |

I too would like to see high boots with more room in the calves. And more larger sized women's outdoor clothing. the manufacturers that do make outdoor clothing for women must think that plus sized women don't participate in outdoor sports. Well,I've got news for them. And I too would like to see more camo patterns, There are soooo many beautiful designs and colors in nature, lets see some more.
And yes, it would be very hard to blend into nature wearing pink. That's just silly. I would also like to see more left handed guns. |

I want gloves that fit. I don't want to try and squeeze my hand into a youth glove and I don't want to have 2 inches of finger material hanging off the end becuase I have to wear men's gloves.
I want women's boots that zip up the side and are insulated and that are larger in the calf area.
I want low waisted camo pants.
I want a backpack that has an built in organizer in the main pouch. I son't need a $100 backpack with a hydration system, nor do I need hundreds of buddy lock attachments.
I also want a gun that is designed to fit me.
I want all chokes to be color coded.
I want a tree stand that doesn't weigh 100 lbs and has a large platform (I see I'm not the only one ).
I want camo accessories that are camo (not pink camo). I agree, Mary, that is silly.
I want binoculars that will adjust to my eyes (will close closer together).
I want wool socks that will fit my foot (my husband's socks are too big and when I pull them up, they almost reach my knees and the heal is half-way up my calf).
I guess that is about it...for now. _________________ Mandy - Editor for Woman Hunter Magazine |

Amen, Mandy!!
Bass Pro has a wool sock for men/women in small that have a lifetime warranty... when they wear out you take them in and they replace them. Even if it is a hole from normal wear and tear. I love them. I wear a 7.5 and these socks fit great. But, my husband hates the men's version, go figure, and he gave me his two pair. So I TOO now socks that come clean to my knees and the heel is at the bottom of my calf... HA!! That is frustrating!!
I have to agree on the Pink Camo. If it has a place in this world, it is not in the woods.
Oh, and I forgot to add on my post about the climber... REASONABLY PRICED. I don't mind paying extra, I just don't want to drop $350-400 on a climber.
AND one more item..... A blind that is well made and reasonably priced made for a bow but adjustable windows for women. And it won't fade in the sun.
Okay... I am going to quit now.... IS THIS REALLY A MAN'S WORLD!! (I dare say NOT) _________________ My favorite verse: "So now, I pray you, take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out into the open country and hunt game for me..." Genesis 27:3

First let me say that I like "pink" - never thought I did, but I do - BUT NOT IN THE WOODS!!!!!
I would like to see a reasonably priced and lighter weight climber, so that I dont have to be a pack mule to get it in the woods. Here is my list of "wants" or should I say "NEEDS"
* Color Coded-Chokes
* Socks that fit women
* Gloves that fit women - size small, we are not all One Size Fits Most kind of gals - I have small hands.
* Turkey calls to fit a womens pallet - our are different than a man and different from youths.
* Low waisted camo pants
* Camo that fits women; doesnt have to be fancy, doesnt have to be a lot - just fit us and not cost an arm & half of a leg.
* Tree stand ladders or the pegs closer together so that short legged and armed people may still climb to the strap and be safe.
That is about it for the minute, I am sure that I can come up with something else in a few minutes. LOL! _________________ "A Well Behaved Woman Rarely Makes History"

| I can't think of anything off hand. I have learned to adapt to what I have available and I make it work. The only thing i could think of would be lighter, warmer womens boots. But I think those already exsist. |
