Product Review: Powerline 1000SB Break-Action Pellet Rifle by Daisy

By Nancy Jo Adams

Women who fear guns with substantial recoil or who are just leery about shooting a weapon can appreciate this pellet rifle by Daisy. Daisy has designed the Powerline 1000SB for power and accuracy, yet with minimal noise and recoil. This rifle is excellent for both novices and seasoned shooters alike to help them achieve their shot accuracy goals.

Built to standard rifle specifications, the 1000SB is a single shot .177 caliber rifle with a break-barrel cocking spring. It has a muzzle velocity of 1000 fps and has a maximum shooting range of 305 yards. The sport-style black composite stock and 17.7 inch rifled steel barrel weighs in at 6.6 pounds and is just 46 inches long, making this gun ideal for most women. The SB model comes with a 3-9 x 32 scope and has a manufacturer suggested retail price of $231.89. This rifle is also available without the scope (Model 1000B) and retails for $184.99.

Powerline 1000SB

With the Daisy Powerline 1000SB, first-time shooters can learn to shoot correctly without the distractions of recoil or noise. Experienced shooters can sharpen their shooting skills with this accurate and powerful pellet gun.

Woman Hunter recently had the opportunity to field test this gun. We found the rifle to be well constructed with a quality feel and look. It weighed a little more than expected, which attests to the quality of the materials used. The rear and front sights are easily and quickly adjustable and help provide for great accuracy. Surprisingly, this rifle came right out of the box requiring very little adjustment to the iron sites.

The 1000SB was well received by the field testers for its performance and durability. The primary objection was to the stiffness of the break-action cocking.

The break-action barrel received mixed reviews because it was rather difficult to cock and somewhat awkward for many users because it is an action not normally found in rifles. Another concern was that the joint where the barrel breaks remains exposed and can easily pinch fingers or clothes.

The safety mechanism causes some confusion. Some field testers were unfamiliar with the thumb cocking hammer-style safety. The gun is in its fire position when the safety hammer is cocked back towards the shooter. As such, it is more like the cocking hammers on lever-action rifles and single-shot shotguns than the forward-slide safety that is familiar to many women.

Overall, this product proved to be a powerful and accurate pellet rifle that can be helpful in perfecting marksmanship, or used for a fun day of target practice or even harvesting small game.
